Mark Friday’s On/Off exhibition is largely constructed from familiar and obscure discarded pieces of wood and metal. The work suggests past views of the future, has vague references to architecture, scientific invention, and religious iconography. The element of interior light, gives the work a dual nature. In a darkened environment, the internal light sources come alive, enhancing the work's inner structures and in some cases projecting light patterns beyond their boundaries.

The show features regional landscape paintings from this important rediscovered artist. The works depict New York, and Pennsylvania, where Illig frequently painted on site. Best known for Western New York landscapes and Gloucester harbor scenes, Illig’s work carries on a long tradition of regional landscape painters and recalls Charles Burchfield, Carl Peters, Gruppe, and others.
