I’m a Denver native and began fusing glass in 2004. I have no formal fusing education other than a few classes, most of my work is self taught. My pieces are made using a 22 or 24 gauge of sheet steel and either 90 or 96 COE (coefficient of expansion) glass or mirror as a combined medium with the occasional airbrushing.
Once the steel is cut I begin grinding and shaping my piece by hand. Then I prep it for clear coating which is a 2 day process, this allows me the time to design my glass composition. I start by choosing either the 90 or 96 COE (coefficient of expansion) glass and continue using the same throughout the process, because combining the two are not compatible when firing. To design a slumped piece I start with a solid color base and then stack smaller cut shapes on top, once the design is complete I place a clear piece of glass the same size as the base on top of the design creating a sandwich and place in the place kiln for fusing. After hours of heating and cooling (usually 24 hours) the solid tile is then ready to be re-fired and slumped another 24 hour process. Once completed I then attach the glass to the steel.
Most of my pieces range from 2’ X 2’ up to 4’ X 2 1/2‘ however larger pieces can be created upon request. The weight varies from 2 pounds to approximately 7. All pieces are original one of a kind and designed to be hung by a single nail, 360 degrees.
