Artists: 20 Invited Artists

The famous painting “The Birth of Venus” by Sandro Botticelli, has endured since the 1400’s as a prime example of the Italian Renaissance movement and a source of inspiration to artists for centuries. Struck by the beauty of the original after viewing it in Italy, gallery owner Niza Knoll was also amazed at how much the painting—depicting the watery “birth” of the Roman goddess of love and beauty—had influenced her art over the years. As an homage to Botticelli and the representation of women in artwork, she extended an invitation for selected local artists to create their own interpretation of the masterpiece.
