About the series:
In the Fall of 2012, artist Evan Anderman had the opportunity to make photographs on an expedition to the Arctic. The tour visited three distinct geographic regions in the North Atlantic: Spitsbergen, Greenland, and Iceland. The Arctic Impressions exhibition series explores the sites Anderman encountered on that expedition.
After Spitsbergen the expedition continued on to Greenland, which presented a completely different landscape. The sheer awesome grandness of the place boggled the mind. The Scoresbysund fjord complex is 100 miles in from the sea, a parade of icebergs leading the way in. The panoramic blue sky is almost oppressive in comparison to the grayness of Spitsbergen, reinforcing the scale of the land and making one feel even more insignificant. This landscape required a different approach to bring everything into context, from the details of the many icebergs and glaciers, to the varied geology of the fjords themselves and the northern lights illuminating the sky at night. Greenland was clearly the highlight of the trip. Taken as a whole the Arctic Impressions series will provide a well-rounded depiction of this rapidly changing part of the world.
A Public Reception will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 from 6-9pm.
An additional reception will be held Friday, February 1, 2012 from 6-9pm.
