FIRED/Hand Built Clay Juried Exhibit
June 16 - July 29
Hand-built ceramic art is created with clay using hands and other tools rather than a pottery wheel. There are a variety of techniques that allow an artist to create everything from figurative and abstract forms to functional items like bowls, cups, platters and tiles. Niza Knoll gallery is highlighting the best examples of these at the FIRED exhibit from June 16–July 29, 2017 at 915 Santa Drive. Respected local artist and instructor Peter Durst chose the pieces from submissions made via a public call for entries. The public is invited to view and purchase works during regular business hours Wednesday-Friday 1-5 pm and at the following special events:
Opening and Artist Reception: Third Friday, June 16 from 5-8pm
The Art of Brunch Art Walk: Sunday, June 25, 11am-4pm
First Friday Art Walk: Friday, July 7, 4-9pm
Third Friday Collectors Night: Friday, July 21, 4-8pm
Juror Peter Durst has been a potter, ceramist, and sculptor for the past 40 years and has exhibited his work nationally in galleries, art centers, museums, private collections and public spaces. After receiving a B.A. in political science from Allegheny college and a J.D. from NYU School of Law, he became interested in pottery and ceramics and discovered the Anderson Ranch in Snowmass, Colorado. After working there for two years, getting a grounded ceramics education and developing his skills, he moved to Denver, Colorado and opened his first studio. He has maintained Durst Studio, Gallery and Sculpture Garden since 1990 where he makes and shows his work and others’. Since 2001 he has taught classes through the Art Students League of Denver. More recently, Peter has become a part-time resident of the big island of Hawaii where he has a studio and teaches a class at the Donkey Mill Art Center in Holualoa, Hawaii
