First Friday Art Walk (6-9pm)

Experience the work of international, national and local artists in Denver's only multi-block art district, where viewers can easily walk to all the galleries. Within a six-block section of Santa Fe Drive area, from 5th Ave. to 10th Ave., you can enjoy over 30 participating galleries and artist studios joining the First Friday Art Walk (6-9 pm) every first Friday of the month, all year round.

First Friday History Tour (5:30 pm)

This walking tour is designed to highlight the history of one of Denver's oldest neighborhoods, and link these simple beginnings with the dynamic avenue of today. Start your walk at 7th and Santa Fe (at the Byers Branch Library) and amble north with an expert guide on this 1-hour tour, then enjoy the sights and sounds of the First Friday Art Walk. Learn about three different eras in the timeline of Santa Fe: 1887, 1927 and today. There's more than just paints and pastels to Santa Fe Drive; learn about the stories beneath the stucco. These tours are not offered in December, January and February. Tours given by Denver History Tours. For more information call 720-234-7929 or visit www.denverhistorytours.com. Please note that the price for this tour is $5, a rate offered in conjunction with Denver's ArtDistrict on Santa Fe. No advance reservations are necessary. Just show up! (Should you wish to take this tour a different day or on your own, the fee is $20 per person. Please contact Denver History tours to arrange this.)

Mark Friday: On/Off

Friday, January 15 - Friday, February 26

Mark Friday’s On/Off exhibition is largely constructed from familiar and obscure discarded pieces of wood and metal. The work suggests past views of the future, has vague references to architecture, scientific invention, and religious iconography. The element of interior light, gives the work a dual nature. In a darkened environment, the internal light sources come alive, enhancing the work's inner structures and in some cases projecting light patterns beyond their boundaries.

Bob Maes experiments with large color fields, mediums and texture for the creation of space and depth, giving his paintings a sculptural feel. His subject matter is minimal and often not of great concern. Sue Robinson works with a thin wash of white oil paint on black canvas creating patterns that repeat with variations. Her images are suggestive of electron microscope photography.
